Not just dot com BUT dot anything

ICANN which governs the Internet domain names is opening the system. Now you will not only be able to book domain with 22 allowed extensions but companies or organizations can create their own version of .com, .org, .co. The latest development is termed as the BIGGEST development, says The Marina del Rey group known as ICANN.

Soon you will be able to reserve your personal domain name extension. Now schools may register their domains with ".school" extension or corporate houses can register their brands or values as extension- drink. COKE, thirst.COKE.

"Today's decision will usher in a new Internet age," said Peter Dengate Thrush, chairman of ICANN's board of directors, in a statement following the group's approval of the expansion Monday in Singapore. "We have provided a platform for the next generation of creativity and inspiration."

However the new age domains comes with a pricey tag. New type domains name will come with price tag of $185,000. ICANN — short for the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers — will make the final decisions on new domains. ICANN imposes the condition that applicants be "established public or private organizations," with the necessary technical capability to keep a domain running.

So in future of WWW, with current domain extensions limited to 22, soon it may run to hundreds or thousands.
